“One of my greatest influences would be Crowded
Meet Amber House. In 2005, while travelling across the Nullarbor
Plain to Broome with my family, the cassette got
Farnan stuck in the tape player. It was the only thing we
could listen to over the year-long trip, so two-year-
old me knew every word to all the bangers!”
From teaching herself guitar as a
Cooktown kid to making her Queensland
Music Awards debut at just 18, it’s clear
Amber Farnan is at the very start of a
blossoming career in music. She recently
came out on top in the high school age
category of the state awards, taking home
Best Song of the Year for Over & Out –
an ode to the vulnerability felt after a
breakup and the discovery of
one’s strengths in a tough period.
The Redlynch State College graduate is
also a successful recipient of the Regional
Arts Development Fund, allowing her to
record and film new music in Brisbane
this September.
