CODE CAIRNS
Modern European share plates paired with contemporary
cocktails is the name of the game for Holloways Beach’s
newest venue: Code Cairns. It’s a sister restaurant and
bar of the popular Two Blocks Café, and located right next
door. Together, the two venues offer the seaside suburb
all-day dining from Thursday to Monday. Co-owner Daniel
Williams – who’s at the helm with business partners Althea
Moos, and Jason and Dani Rahman – said Code is all about
creative food and local drinks in an intimate, trendy space.
“Code continues with our Two Blocks concept of simple,
fresh food done well with excellent service,” he told Tropic.
Featuring a range of European flavours with a dash of
Japanese influence, the menu includes butter poached
bugs with thermidor, citrus and green onion on brioche,
as well as smoked lamb ribs with mountain pepper and
lime. You can find Code on the corner of Oleander and
Bamboo streets.

ZATAR BAKERY
Two words. Haloumi pie. The Tropic team is
taking its next lunch trip to Trinity Beach to
visit Zatar Bakery, which has recently opened in
the northern beaches. The bakery offers all the
best Middle Eastern fare including pide, falafel,
dolmades, baba ganoush, kofta and hummus, as
well as traditional sweets baklava and knafeh.
It’s off Trinity Beach Road, alongside the third
roundabout before you reach the beach.

HERBIE’S DINER
Move over Subway – Herbie’s Diner has arrived with a suite
of hero sandwiches on its menu, including the classics like
the Rueben, Philly cheesesteaks, and croque monsieur.
The new lunch pitstop in Orchid Plaza is also home to
burgers and fresh salads, with pickles and crisps an
add-on option for all. Herbie’s is currently open weekdays
for lunch, but owner Troy Woosnam is hoping to move into
Friday and Saturday evenings with the addition of
hot wings and beer!
