AERIAL SILKS
Visually impressive and creative, aerial silks are a fun and
challenging way to stay fit. The balance, flexibility and core
strength needed in this (naturally) French sport is immense.
Cairns kids can master the magic of stilt walking, unicycling, fire
twirling, juggling, hula hoops, and even clowning at CYCAS.

JUDO
Originating in Japan, Judo is a
martial art involving only the
body, in which the goal is to
knock your opponent off their
feet and immobilise them.
It’s as much a game of wits as
it is of strength. FNQ is home
to Coral Coast Judo Club, the
second largest of its kind WATER POLO
in Queensland. Water polo is the oldest Olympic team sport
and it’s perfect for our tropical weather.

Coral Coast Judo Club have even hosted the Australian Olympic
water polo team Aussie Stingers on the Reef.
Slap on those swimmers and give it a go.

GET ACTIVE
This year’s been a little left of
field, to say the least. To get
you off the ropes, Tropic’s been
running interference and
finding new games to tackle.
We’ve come up with a list of
sports you probably haven’t
tried, or possibly even heard of
– and where you can give them
a go in Cairns.
SEPAK TAKRAW
Sepak takraw, also known as kick volleyball, is like volleyball and soccer
combined. Players can only use their feet, knees or head to kick (or butt)
the game’s rattan ball. The sport is wildly popular in Southeast Asia, and
Cairns too it appears! Our city’s home to half of the Australian team,
which won bronze in the last King’s Cup World Championships in
Bangkok.
