PATRICIA PICCININI
LIFE CLINGS CLOSEST
22 August – 8 December 2019
Exclusive to the Cairns Art Gallery, globally
renowned artist Patricia Piccinini will present a
compelling exhibition that presents a world beyond
our imagination – a world where fact and fiction,
science and humanity meet.
This exhibition continues the Cairns Art Gallery’s
ambitious program of bringing internationally
recognised art stars to Cairns audiences.
Piccinini is one of the most popular international
contemporary artists working in Australia today.
Around the world her exhibitions have drawn
record audiences and her work is acclaimed for its
ability to bring together the worlds of art + science
in order to transcend the human condition.
The Cairns Art Gallery has commissioned Piccinini
to create a body of new sculptural works that
explores the unique relationship between humans
and nature in Far North Queensland.
For more than two years Piccinini has researched
and explored the vegetation, animals and marine
creatures that proliferate our unique part of
the world, in order to create new works that
imaginatively suggest possibilities for future life
forms in a world of environmental change.
Working with a team of skilled collaborators and
the latest in computer technology to create her
new works, Cairns audiences will be the first to see
Piccinini ‘s new sculptures that will go on display in
August as part of the artist’s major solo exhibition at
the Cairns Art Gallery.
