QUEEN’S LAND
BLAK PORTRAITURE
LATE 19TH CENTURY TO THE PRESENT
17 May - 11 August
Presented by the Cairns Art Gallery in
partnership with the Cairns Indigenous
Art Fair, the exhibition explores the
relationships between personal, cultural
and national identity in relation to
historical and contemporary portrait
images by Indigenous and non-Indigenous
artists. Archival photographs and
modernist paintings are juxtaposed with
contemporary images, in a range of media,
where blak artists represent themselves and
others as they want to be seen.

FURNITURE DESIGN FROM MER
14 June – 25 August
Presented by the Cairns Art Gallery, in
partnership with the National Gallery of
Victoria and Gab Titui Cultural Centre,
the exhibition presents some of the
best and most exciting developments
in creative contemporary furniture design
being developed in Australia today. The
exhibition showcases unique items of
furniture made from native bamboo by
artists/designers from the Island of Mer
in the Torres Strait.
