LINDA JACKSON
A Love Affair with the Tropics
Linda Jackson is a leading fashion
designer whose 40-year career has
shaped and defined contemporary
Australian fashion. Tropical Design is
an exhibition tracing Jackson’s love of
the tropics including India, Africa, Asia
and Australia. For a number of years
she lived and worked in Port Douglas
and Cooya Beach where she worked on
arts projects with local communities
until 2011.
To heighten the drama of her
exquisitely patterned fabrics, Jackson
has cut and sewn them into simple
poncho and tunic styled garments that
are designed to be worn in layers to
allow the colours, textures and designs
of each fabric to live. Together they pay
homage to her passion for the tropics,
its flora, fauna and way of living.
