Three unhealthy habits to drop
Nutrition can be a niggling issue for many people. After six years’ experience
as a Sports Performance Dietitian, Harriet Walker has some sound advice on
making healthy, long-lasting change:
1 Looking for single foods to help you achieve your goals. Optimal nutrition
is not about “superfoods” or “fat burning” foods – it’s about establishing a
pattern of eating that supports your overall health and goals.
2 Nutrition perfectionism. Want to stagnate your progress? Then aim for
perfection. One of the biggest handbrakes for people looking to advance
their health goals is only being happy when they have achieved what in their
minds is “dietary perfection”.
3 Short turnaround times. Just signed up for an eight-week shred? It could
help you focus on the healthy habits you need to maintain long term.
However, health transformation is a long-term goal so changing your
mindset from eight weeks to eight months will avoid disappointment.
There are many healthy ways of eating, and anyone telling you otherwise
is probably only in the business for their own personal gain. If health is an
area you’re focused on, before you quit any specific food, be sure to look at
the bigger picture, get qualified advice, and set out a plan that fills you with
confidence – not dread.
