The Good, The Bad and
the Insanely Delicious
I’m home sick with the flu and I’m really
struggling to think of a fitting intro to
acquaint you with my favourite food
truck The Good, The Bad and The Fugly.
My followers like me to write from the
heart so I’m just going to come straight
out with it: Truck or no truck ‘The
Fuglies’ (as they’re affectionately known)
are serving some of the best damn food
around - hands down. They’re knocking
it out of the park.
I first had the pleasure of meeting The
Fuglies when they catered for mine
and Mr Foodvixen’s engagement party
I’m talkin’ the best
fried sticky chicken
you will ever eat in
your life
back in 2017. Since then, they have gone
from a little-known food truck to Cairns
foodie superstars due to their seriously
drool-worthy gastronomic delights.
If they’re not booked out for a private
event, you’ll find them working out of a
shed on Hargreaves St in Edmonton - a
pretty darn obscure spot to find the best
food Cairns has to offer. The concrete
atmosphere may not be ideal but you’re
going there to stuff your face with
epic tucker, not watch the sunset. And
besides… they have fairy lights!
Feeding the masses on a Friday and
Saturday night is what they do best
but be warned it’s first in best dressed!
Their regular 5.30pm kick-off is often
sold out within a couple of hours due
to limited servings of each dish. It’s
this supply and demand type strategy
that, in my opinion, is part of their
huge success. If you’re not on time you
simply miss out.
Uploaded on their Facebook page a
couple of days out from each event, The
Fuglies menu is small but creative and
while not really on the healthy side, it’s
some next level stuff. I’m talkin’ the best
fried sticky chicken you will ever eat in
your life, mozzarella stuffed mushroom
arancini, beer battered cauliflower
tacos and more recently fried gnocchi
with beer battered camembert and
sweet chilli Jam – a dish that I’ll be
literally climbing over people to order
come Friday.
I randomly ran into Nick and Michael
last weekend while at a bucks party
(theirs, not mine) and asked them how
on earth they managed to come up with
all these ideas. Funnily enough, it’s
food that they want to eat themselves,
so they figure they’ll just make it for
everyone. Makes sense.
Meanwhile, rather than continuing on
with my incessant ramblings about
fried chicken, arancini and the like,
I should be sending these guys a PM
to lock them down for my upcoming
nuptials or risk missing out. You’ll find
The Fuglies (most) Friday and Saturday
nights from 5.30pm at The Shed on
Hargreaves Street. Run, don’t walk.
