Q&A
Bree Warren
Tropic chats to Bree Warren, the Brisbane-born beauty
making waves on the international modelling scene.
How did your modelling career start?
I was scouted a few times as a teenager but it never
led to much because I just wasn’t the right size.
Looking back now, I guess even then it was clear that
my body was naturally bigger and curvier than most
models. Things only really took off when I went on
holiday to New York and signed a three-year plus-size
contract with a major agency. It all started from there!
What should big brands and the fashion industry be
doing to promote positive body image?
I think it’s all about promoting what is realistic. People
want to see something they can relate to and they
value authenticity. By seeing a normal, healthy model
in a magazine or campaign, people feel represented
and I think that flows directly into body image. For me,
it’s pretty simple - there can’t be only one way to be
beautiful.
It’s not
about one
size versus
the other,
it’s about
diversity.
There is
room for
everyone
in fashion
and I think
it’s about
showing
a range of
shapes and
sizes, not
just one.
You’ve been appointed by Lendlease and Cairns
Central as the brand ambassador for their new Love
Yourself Campaign - what made you say yes to being
part of it?
This is the kind of campaign I live for and I am
genuinely very proud to be part of it! I love what I do
and diversity is something I really believe in. It’s so
important for the next generation to have that sense
of self-worth and healthy attitude towards their
bodies.
Bree’s Top 3 Tips
1. Stay positive. Social media can be a bit of a negative
space sometimes and it’s hard not to compare or go
down that spiral of doubt. So, the most important
thing is to keep everything - thoughts, words, actions,
all of it - positive. Life will be better because of it.
2. Know that you’re not alone. We are all human,
everyone has struggles and times when we don’t feel
that confident.
3. Have goals, take risks, do the best you can and be
ready to adapt if it doesn’t work out.
