A mini-mountain bike trail was set up on the Cairns Esplanade today as the city prepares to welcome Crankworx, the world’s most watched mountain bike event.
Crankworx began in 2004 and has grown into an international four-stop tour of mountain bike racing.
For the first time ever, a Crankworx event will be held in Cairns, at the recently upgraded Smithfield Mountain Bike Park, the fourth stop on the 2022 tour, after Innsbruck, Whistler, and Rotorua.
The event has attracted the world’s best mountain bike athletes to elite-level competitions in a variety of disciplines.

A pop-up bike trail was set up on the Esplanade on Friday to set the mood and give local riders a chance to show their style.
Hundreds of millions of people around the world are expected to watch the event and they’ll see broadcast coverage of the attractions of Cairns and the surrounding region.
Crankworx will be at Smithfield from 5 to 9 October.
