A 39-year-old woman has been charged with two counts of attempted murder following a domestic incident in the Tablelands.

Police allege two children sustained stab wounds during a disturbance at a Mareeba residence on January 25.

The woman, and the children, were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Acting Detective Inspector Kevin Goan said the three people were known to each other “within the family setting.”

“There is a person that has been charged with two counts of attempted murder on a child aged seven and another aged nine,” he said.

“The children are recovering well and are safe in the care of family.

“At this stage, because the matters are currently before the courts, that’s all I can say.”

The woman was arrested and charged on January 31.

She appeared in the Cairns Magistrates Court yesterday, before being remanded in custody to reappear on April 13.
