Spring is about to be sprung, which can only mean one thing: Cairns' most glamorous racing and fashion season is upon us.

To help us step out in style, Tropic Now asked for some tips on what's trending in 2022 from Cairns Amateurs ambassador, passionate racegoer and founder of the Facebook page 'It's All About The Sash', Em Scodallero.

Here is her top 5 list, which includes looks for both men and women.

In a special Tropic Now poll, we're asking for your input, too - so please pick your own favourite style!

Women

Bright colour & colour blocking

Think outfits in jewel tones and contrasting large blocks of colour. Dresses, skirts and pantsuits in a range of gemstone colours are already featuring heavily on the runway and will filter through to the race track. What better way to show your style at Cairns Amateurs than showcasing all of the amazing colours of the Great Barrier Reef!

More is more!

The brim is back! Wear more substantial quality millinery, including brims and larger pieces with subtle embellishment. Now we are celebrating being back together, we want to stand out, and millinery is the chance to do just that. Royal Ascot is still fresh in our fashion imagery with bigger millinery featuring heavily.

Royal influence

Look to the Royal Family such as Duchess Catherine for classic style. Think monochrome dressing and beautiful prints that stand the test of time. Quality, classic pieces never date. We have seen this throughout the media in many flashback articles of the royals over the years, showcasing the late Princess Diana, the Queen and also how Duchess Catherine is very clever at re-wearing pieces.

Men

Millinery is a must!

Why should the women have all of the fun with millinery? Men should be wearing seasonal millinery too! Most milliners cater for men and there are a huge range of styles for all outfits, such as flat caps, fedoras, boaters and many more!

Creativity with colour

Bold accessories with pops of colour. Men have so many accessories to choose from with lapel pins, brooches, ties and pocket squares to name just a few! Make the accessories really stand out with clashing but complimentary prints and unexpected colour choices.
