A Cairns day spa manager has attributed local support and a first-class team for being crowned the best day spa across Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific.
Alamanda Spa at Alamanda Palm Cove by Lancemore received the award at the 2021 Hotel Management (HM) Awards.
It beat the likes of Chi, The Spa at Shangri-La Sydney and Ubika Day Spa at Fairmont Resort in the Blue Mountains, which were given highly commended accolades.
The Alamanda Spa at the southern end of Palm Cove is famed for its beachfront location, highly trained therapists and private plunge pools overlooking the Coral Sea.

During Queensland’s border shutdown, it offered heavily discounted treatments for locals.
Spa Manager Kasey Abbenbroek said there was overwhelming support and the spa will say thank you through another locals deal in celebration of the award.
She also told Tropic Now the recognition is a credit to what was a team effort during a difficult time.

“Without their highly skilled, nurturing and professional standards we would not be where we are today,” she said.
“We are also very extremely grateful for all the support that our local community has given us over a difficult period in the spa industry.
“The locals supporting us are essentially how we have remained still employed and very busy.
“We are very thankful that we have had such an amazing year considering everything that has happened.”
Other local winners included Crystalbrook Riley on the Cairns Esplanade, which brought home the award for Upper Upscale Hotel for the second year running.
The Reef House Boutique Hotel and Spa in Palm Cove received a highly commended gong in the boutique hotel category.
Editor-In-Chief of HM Magazine, James Wilkinson, said there were more than 1,250 entries which was on par with the record entries received in 2019.
“HM was proud to produce and present the 2021 HM Awards, particularly one that has again been the most challenging in history for the Australasian accommodation industry,” he said.
“Amongst them were so many stars from this amazing industry.”
The awards were presented during a black tie event at the Sydney Town Hall on Saturday night, attended by around 400 people.
Due to continuing border restrictions, the ceremony was also live streamed.
