Cricketing legend Glenn McGrath will share his remarkable journey from feared fast bowler to passionate fundraiser for cancer services at a special dinner for local charity COUCH next Tuesday.

The "Cricket on the COUCH" event at Hilton Cairns will raise much-needed funds for the COUCH Wellness Centre, a $3 million facility currently under construction at a picturesque site off Reservoir Rd.

COUCH board member Michael Nelson said the charity was honoured to host such a high-profile speaker as part of its ongoing fundraising efforts.

“We were just thrilled that Glenn agreed to come up and speak at a COUCH event," Mr Nelson said.

"His support for cancer wellness through the McGrath Foundation are well documented and it's just extraordinary to see what this foundation has done to help ease the suffering of cancer sufferers around Australia.

"Combine this with a history of instilling fear into just about every first class cricket batsman around the world and his story will be one that will leave the audience glad they came to this dinner.

“COUCH is also looking to build a close relationship with the McGrath Breast Care nurses. With the construction of the COUCH Wellness Centre now well underway, we see some great synergies between what these incredible nurses do and what COUCH is looking to do through the Wellness Centre."
