EXCLUSIVE: Late night visitors to the Cairns CBD caught a glimpse of the royal cavalcade carrying Prince Charles and his entourage to his hotel ahead of a busy day for the future king in the Far North.

The Prince arrived around 9pm last night and was escorted through the CBD by about a dozen police cars and motorbikes, travelling from Cairns Airport along Sheridan St before turning left on to Spence St. 

TropicNow has learnt Prince Charles visited parishioners at the St John the Evangelist Anglican Church on the corner of Lake and Minnie Streets this morning.

He will then visit the Royal Doctor Flying Service before flying in a Black Hawk helicopter to Mossman, where he will meet with local indigenous residents and take part in a roundtable to discuss forestry issues.

The Prince of Wales is a committed environmentalist with a keen interest in the protection of forests.

In a landmark speech to the United Nations Climate Conference in Paris in 2015, the Prince called for urgent action to stop deforestation, saying: "It is very simple: we must save our forests, for there is no Plan B to tackle climate change or many of the other critical challenges that face humanity without them." 

It is understood the Prince will go for a walk in the Daintree Rainforest before discussing protection issues and indigenous rights with a small group of stakeholders.

To cap off a full schedule, the Prince will head to the Cairns Convention Centre to watch the women's basketball tonight.
