New name, new coach and new technical director for TNQ soccer team

Liverpool, Manchester City and Barcelona are all football powerhouses with a club named after the city they represent.

As of today, Cairns can join that list with an announcement that FNQ Heat will change its name to Cairns Football Club (FC) ahead of the next season.

With the appointment of Danny Graystone as head coach Mark Boyd as technical director, club director Shaun Donaldson said it was a good opportunity to change the name as well.

"I think it's a good time to have a new start with a new name and new future," he said.

"We have brought in two very professional resources to help lift the club and football in the region.

"And we have consulted broadly and a common theme is people wanted to see the identification with Cairns.

"Obviously we are still servicing the region but we think Cairns FC will identify better with the players and the sponsors and help secure the resources we need to be successful."

Mr Donaldson said the club would look to its players and members to help decide on a new Cairns FC logo through social media, but the colours would remain very similar to the ones fans are used to seeing on the pitch.
