Live music shows a sure-fire sell out at Tanks

One of the city's favourite venues is hosting a string of marquee music acts over the next few months and tickets are selling out faster than ever.

We're in the midst of an epic live music extravaganza at the Tanks - and the punters can't get enough of it.

Some of Australia's biggest music acts at playing at the beloved venue over the next few months, and a remarkable number of the shows have sold out.

RUFUS have just announced they'll be playing a second show at the Tanks.

Many of the upcoming acts including RUFUS, Boy & Bear and Bernard Fanning sold out so quickly they added a second show in Cairns to their tour schedule.

Tickets for a second show by RUFUS went on sale earlier today after their Friday night gig on 24 February sold out in less than 48 hours.

Other upcoming acts set to play in front of a packed house include Paul Kelly and Ballpark Music. 

A recent gig by the Queensland Symphony Orchestra and rapper Tom Thum, held at the Tanks on 7 October, was also a sell out. 

The capacity at Tanks Arts Centre is approximately 600-650 people, so the run of sold out shows paints a strong picture of the huge demand for live music in Cairns.

The recent Grass is Greener festival was also sold out, further proof that local music fans will get out there to watch live acts.

But despite the apparent demand, options for live music in the city are extremely limited.

A quick Google search for "Cairns live music venues" turns up just a handful of results, including The Jack, 12 Bar Blue, and larger venues mostly hosting cover bands such as the Reef Hotel Casino and Brothers Leagues Club.
